Garth Brooks Performs ‘Amazing Grace’ at Inauguration of Joe Biden

Garth Brooks performed at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at the swearing-in ceremony of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States. Brooks delivered a soaring rendition of “Amazing Grace” alongside the U.S. Marine Band.  Following his performance, Brooks made his way over to Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden to shake their hands, and also took time to hug former Presidents Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

Brooks received the invitation to perform directly from Biden and the First Lady, Dr. Jill Biden, and called the opportunity to perform on the historic day an “honor.”  Brooks previously performed “We Shall Be Free” during Barack Obama’s inaugural event on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in 2009.

The country superstar was one of three artists who had the opportunity to perform at the inauguration, including Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.

Alec Baldwin ‘taking a break’ from Twitter after controversy over wife Hilaria Baldwin’s heritage

Alec Baldwin announced that he is taking a break from Twitter after the scandal surrounding his wife, Hilaria Baldwin. Baldwin tweeted “Twitter is like a party where everybody is screaming. Not much of a party. Goodbye for now.”

Alec’s announcement comes nearly one month after Hilaria, 37, was forced to deny accusations that she has been lying about her Spanish heritage and faking her accent for years. Hilaria had vowed to “sign off [Instagram] for a long time” in the wake of the controversy, but returned just three hours later. She then sat down for an interview with The New York Times, in which she shut down cultural appropriation allegations.

Alec released an eight-and-a-half-minute Instagram video on December 27, telling his 2 million followers that people were being “ridiculous” for calling out his wife of eight years. “We live in a world now where we’re hidden behind the anonymity of social media,” he said. “People feel that they can say anything.”

President Trump pardons Steve Bannon and 141 others in final hours in office

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump granted clemency to dozens of people, including his former adviser Stephen Bannon and top election fundraiser Elliott Broidy. In his final hours at the White House, Trump pardoned 73 people and commuted the prison sentences of 70 others in one of his final actions as president of the United States.

The White House said in a statement that Trump granted a full pardon to Bannon as prosecutors pursued “charges related to fraud stemming from his involvement in a political project,” adding, “Mr. Bannon has been an important leader in the conservative movement and is known for his political acumen.” Bannon, a former senior White House adviser, was arrested and charged in August for allegedly defrauding donors of hundreds of thousands of dollars in connection to an online crowdfunding campaign known as “We Build the Wall” in 2018.

Trump had previously granted clemency in the months leading up to his final day in office to close aides, associates and friends including his former campaign adviser Roger Stone, his former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his former foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos, among others.

President Trump wishes new administration luck in taped farewell address

President Donald Trump released a taped farewell address before leaving office, saying: “We did what we came to do – and so much more.” In a video posted on YouTube (which can be viewed here), he said he took on “the tough battles, the hardest fights… because that’s what you elected me to do”.
