Vogue confirmed on Monday that singer Billie Eilish, 19, and actor Timothée Chalamet, 25, will co-chair the 2021 Met Gala event in September, along with tennis star Naomi Osaka and poet Amanda Gorman, both 23. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, fashion designer Tom Ford and Instagram head Adam Mosseri will serve as honorary chairs.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute announced in April that the Met Gala will return this year with a two-part exhibition on American fashion planned for September 2021 and May 2022.

Eilish, Chalamet, Osaka and Gorman will co-chair the Sept. 13 event, a smaller gala heralding the launch of the “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” exhibit on Sept. 18. The dress code for the event will be “American Independence.”

3 dead, 27 injured after boat capsizes in San Diego

Three people are dead and 27 more were injured after a boat believed to be a “smuggling vessel” overturned off the coast of San Diego on Sunday. Rick Romero, San Diego Fire Rescue lifeguard lieutenant, said during a press conference that the agency received a call around 10 a.m. from a commercial assistance vessel reporting a vessel offshore near the surf line that appeared to be in trouble.

A total of about 30 people were on the boat at the time of the incident, exceeding its capacity, and U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agent Jeff Stephenson said there was “every indication” the boat was being used to smuggle migrants into the United States illegally. Romero said that injuries ranged from hypothermia to damage related to the boat breaking apart.

Republicans Susan Wright and Jake Ellzey advance to runoff for House seat in special Texas election

Republicans Susan Wright and state Rep. Jake Ellzey will advance to a runoff in the special election to fill a North Texas congressional seat.

Wright, the widow of Rep. Ron Wright and a longtime activist in local GOP politics, emerged from the 23-person field as one of the top two candidates to represent the 6th Congressional District, winning more than 19 percent of the vote. She was first to advance to the runoff. Ellzey advanced after the third-place candidate, Jana Lynne Sanchez, conceded Sunday morning. A runoff will take place because none of the candidates met the 50 percent threshold required to win outright.

A Republican has represented the district, a suburban swath of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, for more than 30 years. The special election came about because of Ron Wright’s death after he contracted Covid-19. Trump endorsed his widow just days before the election, and after she advanced to the runoff, Trump said in a statement Sunday: “Congratulations to Susan Wright on her great surge yesterday which made her NUMBER ONE and assures her participation in the TX-06 runoff against another Republican.”

Billie Eilish shows off her new look on the cover of British Vogue

19-year-old Billie Eilish is featured on the cover of British Vogue, shortly after changing her green and black hair for blonde. The magazine said, “She is indulging a fantasy by embracing a ‘classic, old-timey pin-up’ look.”

Eilish said she wanted to explore the beauty of corsets, which she said she knew would rile people, but was also drawn to their original restrictive function. The new look is a huge change for Eilish, who said in the interview that her body is her “deepest insecurity” and was the initial reason for her depression when she was younger, which led to her wearing baggy clothes. Eilish said she expects criticism of her more revealing shoot with British Vogue, adding, “My thing is that I can do whatever I want. It’s all about what makes you feel good. Showing your body and showing your skin — or not — should not take any respect away from you.”

Eilish’s new album “Happier Than Ever” will be released on July 30.
