Two Men Charged In Unsolved Murder Of Rapper Jam Master Jay In 2002

U.S. prosecutors announced on Monday that two men are being charged for the murder of Jam Master Jay, one of the founder members of Run-DMC.  The 37-year-old rapper was murdered back in 2002 “in cold blood” as part of a dispute over a drug deal.

Jam Master Jay – whose real name was Jason Mizell — was shot inside a recording studio in the New York City borough of Queens. One of the accused men, Karl Jordan Jr., pleaded not guilty to murder and eight drug-related charges through his lawyer when he was arraigned on Monday. The other man, Ronald Washington, will be arraigned later this week. If convicted they would face 20 years to life behind bars.

Seth DuCharme, the acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said at a news conference, “This is a case about a murder that for nearly two decades had gone unanswered, and so today we begin to answer that question of who killed Jason Mizell, and why They walked in and they murdered him (Mizell) in cold blood.”

Run-DMC, one of the best-known rap acts of the 1980s. Jam Master Jay was a founding member, along with Joseph “Run” Simmons and Darryl “DMC” McDaniel.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Calls Back Chamber To Vote On USPS Bill

Amid growing fears over delayed ballots, U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday she is calling lawmakers back to session this week to vote on a bill that would bar changes to the U.S. Postal Service. Pelosi said she is calling on House members to return from their August recess this week and vote on the bill, called the Delivering for America Act. The bill would prohibit officials from implementing changes at the Postal Service until next year.

In a letter to Democrats, Pelosi cited President Donald Trump’s “campaign to sabotage the election,” saying he was manipulating the Postal Service to disenfranchise voters. The Democrats requested that Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a Republican fundraiser and top donor to Trump who took over the Postal Service in June, and Postal Service Board of Governors Chairman Michael Duncan, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee, testify before the House Oversight Committee on Aug. 24.

Fortnite Maker Epic Games Sues Apple And Google For Removal Of Game From App Store

Fortnite maker Epic Games sued Apple on Thursday after its hugely popular video game was removed from Apple’s App Store. The company has also filed a lawsuit against Google. The suits come after Apple and Google blocked the game after Epic introduced a direct payment system.

Epic alleges in one lawsuit that Apple is engaging in anti-competitive behavior and monopolistic practices through its app store, which is a major distributor of games and apps for Apple devices. The game maker also tweeted that Epic “defied the App Store Monopoly. In retaliation, Apple is blocking Fortnite from a billion devices.” In its lawsuit against Google, Epic Games claimed that the company was abandoning its “don’t be evil” motto.

In a statement, Apple said Fortnite was removed because it violated rules that apply to every developer.  “Epic enabled a feature in its app which was not reviewed or approved by Apple, and they did so with the express intent of violating the App Store guidelines regarding in-app payments that apply to every developer who sells digital goods or services,” the company said.  A Google spokesman said: “While Fortnite remains available on Android, we can no longer make it available on Play because it violates our policies. However, we welcome the opportunity to continue our discussions with Epic and bring Fortnite back to Google Play.”

Southern California ‘Lake Fire’ Continues To Grow, Forcing Evacuations

A fast-moving wildfire in Southern California has burned at least 10,000 acres in a matter of hours, according to officials. The Los Angeles County Fire Department said the blaze – dubbed the “Lake Fire” – remains at 0% containment as it burns in the mountainside community of Lake Hughes, located about 65 miles north of Los Angeles.

The blaze broke out around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday but grew quickly in size. Almost seven hours after starting, the blaze reached 10,000 acres. A  “firewhirl” or “firenado” was also reported. Fire tornados, also known as fire vortices, occur when a gust of extremely hot air blows through the fire at a certain angle, producing a spinning momentum which then sucks up embers and debris.

Los Angeles County Deputy Fire Chief David Richardson said as of Thursday morning, more than 1,059 firefighters are battling the blaze. The Lake Fire is expected to continue to grow and threaten the surrounding communities of Lake Hughes, Leona Valley, Lake Elizabeth, Pine Canyon and Three Points.

Dolly Parton To Release New Holiday Album “A Holly Dolly Christmas”

Dolly Parton’s new holiday album, A Holly Dolly Christmas will arrive before the holidays on Oct. 2, and will includes a number of celebrity collaborations.

A Holly Dolly Christmas will feature duets with Billy Ray Cyrus and his daughter Miley (who is Parton’s goddaughter), Willie Nelson, Michael Bublé, Jimmy Fallon and Parton’s brother Randy.

Parton finished A Holly Dolly Christmas after the novel coronavirus pandemic began, so she and her duet partners largely recorded their parts separately. “We’ve been very smart, very careful, because we’re trying to protect ourselves and I’m an older person,” said Parton. “I’m not out to get it if I don’t [have] to, I’m hoping I can outrun all that. We’ve been all very, very smart, but it didn’t slow us up.”

A Holly Dolly Christmas takes its name from Burl Ives’ classic “Holly Jolly Christmas.” Parton recorded her own version of the song to be included on the album.
