‘Moonlight’ Director Barry Jenkins To Direct ‘Lion King’ Prequel

Oscar-winning director Barry Jenkins is set to direct the sequel to Disney’s 2019 live-action “The Lion King.” Jenkins, who directed the films “Moonlight and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” confirmed the news on his Twitter page.

The film will continue with the technology that was used in the 2019 film and “The Jungle Book,” which was released in 2016. The new film is expected to be a continuation of the 2019 reboot, and not a sequel to the 1994 animated classic. It’s not yet known whether the new film will follow any of the plot lines from the franchise’s animated sequel “The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride.” According to Variety, sources “say the new movie will partly focus on the early years of Mufasa, the regal father of Simba whose death forms the emotional heart of the first film and its remake.”

Arrest Made In Ambush Shooting of Two Los Angeles Deputies

Prosecutors announced on Wednesday that an arrest has been made of a man accused of shooting two Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies ambush-style earlier this month in Compton, California.

District Attorney Jackie Lacey said 36-year-old Deonte Lee Murray, was expected to be arraigned on two counts of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder of a peace officer and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. Lacey announced the arrest and charges during a news conference with other law enforcement officials.

Law enforcement officials have been searching for a gunman in the Sept. 12 shooting, which left two Los Angeles Sheriff’s office deputies critically wounded, each with a gunshot to the head. Police believe the suspect acted alone. LASD Homicide Bureau Capt. Kent Wegener declined to reveal a motive for the shootings, but said Murray “obviously hates policemen and wants them dead.”

Commission on Presidential Debates Promises To Change Structure And Format Of Future Debates Amid Backlash Over First Debate

The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Wednesday that it plans to re-structure the events going forward after backlash over the chaos and verbal sparring of Tuesday night’s debate.

The organization sets the procedures for presidential debates, and works with campaigns to determine the rules and topics of each of the general election debates. The organization said that after Tuesday night, the format for the second two debates would need further consideration. The organization said in a statement: “The Commission on Presidential Debates sponsors televised debates for the benefit of the American electorate. Last night’s debate made clear that additional structure should be added to the format of the remaining debates to ensure a more orderly discussion of the issues. The CPD will be carefully considering the changes that it will adopt and will announce those measures shortly.”

President Donald Trump frequently interrupted and spoke over Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, who at one point told the president to “shut up.”
