Roberts wrote of the special day, “So grateful to my family and pod for making my pregnancy feel so celebrated during such wild times.”

Roberts and Hedlund started dating around March 2019. Roberts has explained that her endometriosis diagnosis affected her fertility and she had to freeze her eggs to ensure she could have children.

House approves stimulus check increase to $2,000; sends bill to Senate

On Monday, the House approved giving Americans $2,000 stimulus checks, increasing payments from the $600 checks that were set to be given out as part of a COVID-19 relief package that President Donald Trump signed into law Sunday evening.

The bill passed in a 275 – 134 vote, needing the support of two-thirds of House members present. The measure will now head to the Senate where its future remains unclear. Senate Republicans have for months stressed over increased government spending and are likely to oppose the measure despite Trump’s demands.

The boosted checks were a direct demand from Trump, one of several policy items that led the president to heavily criticize the package — despite his own administration negotiating the legislation with Congress as part of a large government spending package. He called the legislation a “disgrace” and the delay in signing the legislation resulted in expanded unemployment insurance expiring for millions of unemployed Americans, delaying their next check. Trump ended up signing the $900 billion COVID-19 relief package, which was attached to a $1.4 trillion government spending bill, Sunday evening to avert a government shutdown.

Federal judge denies Ghislaine Maxwell’s latest request for bail

On Monday, a federal judge denied bail to Ghislaine Maxwell for a second time. Maxwell is the British socialite facing charges of acting as an accomplice of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Judge Alison Nathan of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York again ruled that Maxwell, 59, poses a flight risk, citing the severity of the charges she faces. In July, Nathan first denied her bail, siding with prosecutors who said that her wealth and dozens of overseas bank accounts make her an “extreme” flight risk.

Earlier this month, Maxwell’s attorneys proposed a $28.5 million bail package secured with $8 million in property and $500,000 in cash. Additionally, Maxwell’s relatives and friends have agreed to give an additional $5 million.

Maxwell pleaded not guilty to eight counts related to accusations that she helped Epstein sexually exploit and abuse multiple minor girls as young as 14 from 1994 to 1997. The charges include conspiracy, perjury, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sexual acts and transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

If convicted, Maxwell faces up to 35 years in prison. She is set to stand trial in July.

Brad Paisley Replaces Taylor Swift On Nashville Mural

Taylor Swift has been removed from a well-known downtown Nashville mural located on Legends Corner, a bar located next to the Ryman Auditorium.

The mural includes country artists such as Blake Shelton, Loretta Lynn, Reba McEntire, Keith Urban, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton and more. Swift has been replaced on the mural by Brad Paisley, with his image sitting in the chair where Swift previously appeared.

The mural is the work of artist Tim Davis, who is in the process of overhauling the mural. David wrote in an email to USA Today that “ultimately, the changes are not up to me, but up to the owners of the Legends Corner bar. … They have had the intention from the start to change it up once in a while, taking some artists off and adding others.” Davis is a fan of Swift, but added, “I have heard many complaints here in Nashville about Taylor being on the wall with country legends since she is currently focused mainly on pop.”

Lori Loughlin completes 2-month prison sentence early for her role in college admissions scandal

Actress Lori Loughlin was released early from federal prison in California on Monday after serving a two-month sentence in connection with the college admissions cheating investigation. Loughlin was released two months after reporting to the prison in October for her role in a scheme to get her daughters admitted to college in Southern California. It was the same San Francisco-area facility where actress Felicity Huffman also served time last year for a related conviction.

Loughlin and her husband, fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were both sentenced in August after pleading guilty in Boston to conspiring to fraudulently secure admission for their two daughters to the University of Southern California. The couple were part of a group of wealthy parents, college staffers and coaches that prosecutors said were caught in a scam led by William “Rick” Singer designed to get their children admitted to selective colleges. Singer would work with college admissions personnel and athletic coaches to fraudulently admit the students as athletes.

Prosecutors said Loughlin and Giannulli paid $500,000 to have their two daughters admitted to USC as crew recruits, even though neither girl had even played the sport. Giannulli reported to prison last month to serve a five-month sentence.

President Trump Signs Coronavirus Relief and Government Funding Bill

With unemployment benefits expiring and a pending government shutdown, President Trump signed the $900 billion coronavirus relief package, the White House announced Sunday night. The pandemic bill extends billions of dollars in coronavirus relief to millions of Americans. “Good news on Covid Relief Bill,” the president tweeted late Sunday before the signing of the bill was announced. “More information to follow!”

Members of Congress had urged the president to sign the pandemic relief bill and a $1.4 trillion omnibus bill to fund the government through September. Just last week, Trump called the relief bill as a “disgrace” and asked for direct payments to Americans to be increased from $600 in the bill to $2,000.  In a statement on Sunday night, the president said he was sending back to Congress “a redlined version” of the coronavirus relief bill insisting that those funds be removed. The President said, “As president, I have told Congress that I want far less wasteful sending and more money going to the American people in the form of $2,000 checks per adult and $600 per child. Much more money is coming.”

If Trump had not signed the stimulus legislation before a new Congress arrives on Jan. 3, the bills would have expired, forcing lawmakers to negotiate another package.
