President-elect Biden to nominate Rep. Deb Haaland to Interior Secretary; Michael Regan as EPA Chief

Transition team officials said on Thursday that President-elect Joe Biden plans to nominate Rep. Deb Haaland as interior secretary and Michael Regan, North Carolina’s top environmental official, to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Haaland, who has represented New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District since 2019, was previously the chairwoman of the state’s Democratic Party and worked on President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign. She is a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe and if confirmed, she’ll be the first Native American to serve in a Cabinet secretary position. Haaland would be responsible for overseeing the management of federal land, natural resources and national parks. The department also represents the U.S. government’s closest connection with the nation’s 1.9 million American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Regan has served as secretary of North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality since January 2017. Before that, he worked for the Environmental Defense Fund, a non-profit advocacy group, and he was an air quality specialist with the EPA during the Clinton and Bush administrations. If confirmed, Regan will be the first Black man to lead the agency.

Brett Young releases his version of the Christmas classic “Silver Bells”

Brett Young has released his take on a holiday favorite with his version of the Christmas classic “Silver Bells.”

Young’s “Silver Bells” follows his success earlier this year with the No. 1 hit “Catch,” as well as the release of his newest single, “Lady,” from an upcoming album. Young said in a statement: “Aside from ‘Silver Bells’ being one of the most well-known classic Christmas songs, it’s specifically always been one of my favorites. I think a song that’s able to lend itself to so many different versions is a special thing and this one seems to be extremely versatile. Also, it just makes me happy when it comes on and that’s what Christmas is all about.”

Hilary Duff confirms that ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot is officially canceled

Hilary Duff has announced on Instagram that the planned Lizzie McGuire revival series for Disney+ has been canceled.

Duff said on social media: “I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but, sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen. I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn’t align. Hey now, this is what 2020s made of.”

The original Lizzie McGuire series aired from 2000 to 2004 on Disney channel and spawned a 2003 film, The Lizzie McGuire Movie. Duff was set to reprise her role as an older Lizzie McGuire in the revival alongside returning stars Adam Lamberg as Gordo, Hallie Todd as Jo McGuire, Robert Carradine as Sam McGuire and Jake Thomas as Matt McGuire.

Terri Minsky, the creator of the original Lizzie McGuire series, exited the Disney+ revival as showrunner in January following the filming of two episodes. The show never resumed production, and Duff suggested that the revival should be moved to Hulu so that it can explore more adult themes.

‘Revenge of the Nerds’ Reboot Is Coming From Seth MacFarlane

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane will produce a reboot of the ’80s comedy classic Revenge of the Nerds. The reboot for 20th Century will reportedly star The Lucas Brothers, who will also serve as writers for the project.

According to Variety: “The upcoming version won’t be a remake of the 1984 comedy, which hasn’t aged all that well and has been criticized in recent years for depictions of rape. Instead, the contemporary reimagining will pontificate about today’s nerd culture and what even constitutes a geek in the 21st century.”

Revenge of the Nerds original cast included Robert Carradine, Anthony Edwards, Timothy Busfield, and Curtis Armstrong as Booger.

President-elect Biden, Vice President Pence to receive COVID-19 vaccination

Vice President Mike Pence will publicly receive a Covid-19 vaccine on Friday, and President-elect Joe Biden is expected to get a shot as soon as next week. Pence, who is the head of the White House coronavirus task force, is hoping to “promote the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and build confidence among the American people,” the White House said in a statement on Wednesday. His wife, Karen Pence, and Surgeon General Jerome Adams will receive the vaccine at Friday’s event, set to take place at the White House.

Meanwhile a transition official said that Biden is expected to receive the vaccine as soon as next week. Biden told reporters earlier Wednesday in Wilmington, Delaware, “I don’t want to get ahead of the line, but I want to make sure we demonstrate to the American people that it is safe to take. When I do it, I’ll do it publicly so you can all witness my getting it done.”

The decision to receive the vaccine in public is critical in the fight against Covid-19 as health care officials have faced skepticism by some about the safety of the vaccine. Health care workers across the United States were among the first Americans to get the federally-approved coronavirus vaccine this week.
