Mitchell Tenpenny and Teddy Swims team up for the collaboration ‘Elephant In The Room’

Mitchell Tenpenny debuted a new song and music video for his song “Elephant In The Room” featuring Teddy Swims. Tenpenny says of the song: “‘Elephant in the Room’ is about that innate thing in us as humans when we can feel it when someone is watching us. This song is a love story about two people who have this kind of chemistry and energy happening from across the room. And everyone else can feel it too because it’s so powerful.”

The music video, directed by Stephen Kinigopoulos and Alexa Stone, stars both artists and features them vying for the love of the same woman, and concludes with a “crime of passion” where the female love interest kills Tenpenny’s character and then pins the murder on Swims’ character, leading to his arrest.

Tenpenny’s current single at country radio is “Truth About You” which he debuted on TikTok before it became the highest steaming debut of his career.  Tenpenny will join Luke Bryan on the Raised Up Right Tour beginning on June 9, and will join Luke Combs this fall on the Middle Of Somewhere Tour in Bangor, Maine on September 2 and 3 at the Maine Savings Amphitheater.   Meanwhile, Swims is currently on the road with his Tough Love World Tour, which concludes on June 9 in Glasgow.

Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde’s ‘Never Wanted to Be That Girl’ hits No. 1 on Country Radio charts

Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde have the No. 1 single on country radio with their duet “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” duet. The song, co-written by Pearce and McBryde with Shane McAnally, was released as a single in September from Pearce’s third studio album 29: Written in Stone.  It also marks only the second female duet to top the chart in 30 years, following Elle King and Miranda Lambert’s “Drunk.”

Pearce celebrated the achievement while on the road with Kenny Chesney’s Here and Now Tour, posting about the accomplishment on social media: “When [Ashley McBryde] and I were writing ‘Never Wanted To Be That Girl’ with [Shane McAnally], we were just in the moment, thinking about the women we want to be and the way that’s not always how life and love turn out. But nobody ever paused long enough to think about having a #1 record or winning an Academy of Country Music Award. We wanted to shake off an honest mistake, and now here we are with the No. 1 song at Country radio and the ACM trophy for Music Event of the Year. Sometimes out of something bad comes something good. Thank you to everyone who plays Country music, our fans, our record labels, management teams, agents, our bands and everyone in between. Ashley, I am so proud to call you my friend, my sister and I will forever be grateful for this song bringing us together. Gonna go cry for the 100th time!”

“Never Wanted To Be That Girl” is Pearce’s third No. 1 hit, and McBryde’s first No. 1.  Said McBryde on Instagram“First times only happen once. I’ll always remember I was in Leeds, England when I got the news. I’ll always love that Carly and I got to ride this rocket of a song together. I’ll always love that she, Shane and I trusted each other and ourselves to be brutally honest when we wrote it. It doesn’t get a whole lot better than that.”

United States lab sent samples to help solve mystery deaths of three American tourists in Bahamas

Officials confirmed on Monday that samples extracted from three American tourists who died at a resort in the Bahamas under mysterious circumstances have been sent to a lab in the United States, to expedite results and help authorities understand what happened.

Paul Rolle, the police commissioner of the Bahamas, stated that the police have also collected samples from the rooms where the tourists were staying and the surrounding property to determine whether any contaminants were present, saying: “We really want to know what caused this.”  Police Commissioner Rolle identified the victims as Michael Phillips, 68, and wife Robbie Phillips, 65, of Tennessee, and Vincent Paul Chiarella, 64, of Florida.  Chiarella’s wife, Donnis, was airlifted to a hospital in Florida and remains in serious condition, Rolle said. Their bodies of the three victims were found Friday morning at the Sandals Emerald Bay resort in Exuma, where the couples had been staying in two separate villas.

The samples extracted from the victims and their villas were sent to a lab in Philadelphia, with results of the toxicology report expected in about one week. Rolle noted that the Bahamas’ Department of Environmental Health and police officers are still at the resort.

All four tourists complained of feeling ill and went to a doctor the night before their bodies were discovered; they went at different times and had eaten different things. Sandals Resorts said it would not comment further beyond its original statement, which noted that it is supporting the investigation and the families of those affected.  The company said: “Out of respect for the privacy of our guests, we cannot disclose further information at this time.”

Trial begins for man who drove through New York’s Times Square killing one woman, injuring 22

Nearly five years after his arrest, the trial has begun for the man who drove through crowds of tourists in Times Square killing one woman and injuring 22 other people.  Richard Rojas, a 31-year-old U.S. Navy veteran, was arrested in 2017 after he barreled his Honda Accord down a sidewalk along Seventh Avenue between West 42nd Street and West 45th Street before crashing into protective barriers on May 18, 2017.

Rojas was indicted by a grand jury and charged with 29 counts including murder for “depraved indifference” for the death of Alyssa Elsman, an 18-year-old who was on a family trip when she was killed. Other charges included numerous counts of felony assault for recklessly causing physical injury and injury through risk of death, including for the injury of Elsman’s 13-year-old sister Ava.

Prosecutors with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office noted in the indictment that Rojas’ defense team does not dispute the facts of the case and intends “to offer a psychiatric defense.” According to a criminal complaint, Rojas allegedly told police that he had smoked marijuana laced with PCP.  PCP, also known as angel dust, has hallucinogenic effects that can cause users to become delusional and paranoid, resembling symptoms associated with schizophrenia.

Rojas allegedly told a traffic enforcement officer after the incident: “I wanted to kill them” and also reported he was hearing voices and experiencing hallucinations.  In addition, just days before the Times Square rampage, Rojas was arrested after he threatened a man who had gone to his apartment to help him notarize documents with a knife and accused him of trying to steal his identity.  He was also arrested twice previously for driving while intoxicated.
