Elon Musk announces Twitter change of logo from bird to ‘X’

Elon Musk tweeted on  Sunday that he plans to change the logo of Twitter to an “X” from the famous blue bird, posting a short video teasing what the new logo may look like. In a series of posts on his Twitter account starting just after 12 a.m. ET, Twitter’s owner said that he’s looking to make the change worldwide as soon as Monday, writing: “And soon we shall bid adieu to the twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds.”  Musk later tweeted: “Not sure what subtle clues gave it way, but I like the letter X”  and later posted: X.com now points to https://twitter.com/. Interim X logo goes live later today.”

The change isn’t surprising given Musk’s long history with the name “X.” Musk’s rocket company, Space Exploration Technologies Corp., is commonly known as ‘SpaceX.’ And in 1999, Musk founded a startup called X.com, an online financial services company now known as PayPal.  In fact, the billionaire Tesla CEO tweeted last October that “buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app.”

Musk’s news is just the latest big change to Twitter since he bought the social media platform for $44 billion last year. The logo change on Twitter, however, was met with sharp criticism on the social media platform, who felt it would be confusing to a huge chunk of the Twitter’s audience.  Revenue has dropped sharply since Musk took over the company and laid off roughly three-fourths of the workforce to slash costs and avoid bankruptcy. He hired longtime NBC Universal executive Linda Yaccarino as Twitter’s CEO in May.

Musk’s latest move comes shorty after Twitter faced new competition from Meta’s new app, Threads, launched earlier this month.  Threads is being billed as a text-based version of Meta’s photo-sharing app Instagram that the company has said offers “a new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations.” In the first five days of its launch, 100 million people had signed up for Threads.

Higher is comprised of 14-tracks and follows Stapleton’s Grammy-winning and country chart-topping 2020 LP “Starting Over,” which included two No. 1 singles — the title track, and “You Should Probably Leave.” The album features Stapleton working with star producer Dave Cobb and his wife Morgane, along with J.T. Stapleton has a few more shows on the road serving as opening act for George Strait’s stadium tour, including two back-to-back concerts in Nashville. Kim Kardashian debuts in the trailer for ‘American Horror Story: Delicate’

FX has released the first teaser for the 12th season of their popular ‘American Horror Story’ franchise, dubbed American Horror Story: Delicate . The teaser trailer features a first look at Kim Kardashian, who stars in the latest season of the horror anthology series, coming soon to FX and Hulu.

Kardashian — who dons icy blonde hair and jet-black gloves — appears alongside “AHS” co-stars Emma Roberts and Cara Delevingne in the clip, which features a group of blonde lookalikes dancing to a techno rendition of “Rock-a-bye Baby” as images of embryo fertilization and baby carriages flicker across the screen. The teaser concludes with Kardashian’s character holding an infant.

Kardashian and Roberts teased their “AHS” roles in April with a clip of their names and the season’s “Delicate” title. The season takes inspiration from the upcoming Danielle Valentine novel “Delicate Condition,” which follows the horrifying pregnancy journey of an indie actress. series creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy previously said that Halley Feiffer, who serves as showrunner of Season 12, wrote the role specifically for Kardashian. Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter in April: “Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family. (Showrunner) Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

Britney Spears and will.i.am team up for the single ‘Mind Your Business’

will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas has teamed up with Britney Spears for the new single “Mind Your Business,” Britney’s first music since her summer 2022 Elton John collaboration “Hold Me Closer.”

“Mind Your Business” marks the first reunion for Spears and will.i.am since their triple-platinum hit “Scream & Shout” in 2012. One decade after that release, “Scream & Shout” reached one billion views on YouTube. will.i.am also executive-produced Spears’ 2013 album Britney Jean.

The project was only announced just days before its release, with will.i.am simply tweeting out a 16-second snippet of the electronic dance track and the caption: “UH OH!!! You are now NOW rocking with will.i.am and @britneyspears…🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥” . will.i.am also told ‘CBS Mornings’ earlier this week: “I’ve been a fan, friend and supporter of Britney throughout the years. Supporter as far as a person that goes out and listens to her music — a support as far as somebody that’s there to help champion her through her times when she was fighting for her liberation. She is an amazing person.”

Police probing link between accused NY serial killer and missing South Carolina woman

Police in South Carolina are probing a link between accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann and the disappearance of an 18-year-old woman who went missing in 2014. 18-year-old Aaliyah Bell disappeared two days before Thanksgiving 2014 after leaving her uncle’s home in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Police in Rock Hill, South Carolina said on Thursday that they were investigating whether the Long Island murder suspect is connected to the disappearance of Bell, who vanished just 20 miles away from a property Heuermann owns. Property records show that Heuermann also owns a timeshare in Las Vegas and a property in Chester, South Carolina — a 30-minute drive from Rock Hill — that he purchased in 2021 for $154,000. The property is fenced off and marked with a sign reading, “No Warrant, No Entry.” Police in Las Vegas have also been scouring their missing person records for ties to Heuermann.

Rock Hill Police Lt. Michael Chavis said in a statement: “Our investigators have been reviewing any information to see if there is a correlation between the disappearance of Aaliyah Bell and Rex Heuermann. So far there is no indication that leads us to identify Heuermann as a suspect in this case. We will continue to investigate Bell’s disappearance and follow up on all tips and leads.” Chavis added the department was “doing its due diligence” in trying to tie the cases together.

The 59-year-old Heuermann, an architect from Massapequa Park, is charged with murder in the deaths of three women whose remains were found in Gilgo Beach in 2010, and is the main suspect in a fourth slaying.

Senate Judiciary Committee advances Supreme Court ethics bill

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday to advance legislation that would require the Supreme Court to adopt an ethics code. Called the ‘Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal and Transparency Act,’ the bill from lead sponsor Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse cleared the committee along party lines, 11-10. It is not expected to get the 60 votes required to advance on the Senate floor, and if so, it is likely fail in the GOP-controlled House.

Democrats followed  through on their pledge for legislative action after a series of reports about Justice Clarence Thomas’ relationship with a Republican real estate magnate. A Pro Publica report revealed that Justice Clarence Thomas had accepted vacations and travel from a Republican mega donor; while Justice Samuel Alito has also faced criticism for alleged ethics violations.

Republicans introduced several amendments touching on the protests outside Supreme Court justices’ homes, the leak of the draft opinion overturning Roe v. Wade, Supreme Court expansion and imposing new rules on reporters who cover the high court.

The legislation has backing from more than two dozen Senate Democrats, and would require the Supreme Court to adopt a code of conduct for the justices and implement procedures to handle complaints of judicial misconduct. It would also require the high court to impose more rigorous rules for the disclosure of gifts, travel and income received by the justices and their law clerks.

Alana Springsteen teams up with Chris Stapleton on “ghost in my guitar”

Alana Springsteen has teamed up with Chris Stapleton for the track “ghost in my guitar,” featured on the second installment of Springsteen’s three-part debut album TWENTY SOMETHING: Figuring It Out. Stapleton is featured on guitar in Springsteen’s newest single.

Alana said in an Instagram post: “this song is about the things that haunt us… people who’s memory we can’t seem to shake no matter how hard we try. this duet needed to allude to the person who once was, which is why it couldn’t be a vocal. i had this insanely specific tone in my head for it and ended up seeing chris play his fender jazzmaster live for the first time right around the time i was cutting this song. i knew immediately that it had to be him. there was never a back up plan if he said no. thankfully chris is the kind of artist and musician who believes in the integrity of a song over anything else and i’m forever grateful that he liked this one enough to lend his iconic talent to it. …he asked what i had in mind and all i said was ‘think about what you would do with your voice and do it with your guitar instead’. he did.. and then some.”

Springsteen added: “One of the highlights of Figuring It Out is my collaboration with Chris Stapleton. This song is intentionally not a traditional vocal duet. I wanted it to be a duet between me and a lead guitar, so the guitar feature was crucial to this song. It represents the lingering presence of something (in my case, someone) who’s gone but also very much not. Every time I think I’ve written my way past the hurt, I’m reminded that I have a long way to go. The guitar had to be just as emotionally charged as a vocal would have been to hint at those lingering feelings and memories that just won’t let me be, and Chris’ signature guitar tone was the only one I ever heard on it in my head. I’m so grateful to him for liking this song enough to lend his insane talent to it. I’m honored to have him on this project.”

Kelsea Ballerini announced that she’s hosting three nights of screenings and intimate conversations about her short film, Under the Welcome Mat, based on the EP of the same name. In the wake of her split from ex-husband Morgan Evans, Ballerini released Under the Welcome Mat on Valentine’s Day in 2023, along with the accompanying short film.

Ballerini says in a press release: “Sometimes I write songs to figure out where I am, how I feel. I write to honor my feelings and get them out because that’s the purest way I know how. Now, I need to move on now – and maybe you do, too – but before we do, these three events are all about being in one space, together, sharing all of it.
